Sunday fun

It was great to get some fresh air yesterday. We went 4x4ing along the creek and my hubby scared the hell out of me. Mike and his friend thought that was awesome. I guess I am getting old because that's all we wanted to do when we were teens. He took us up the the Ashtray, which is a big cliff area that looks down hundreds of feet to the River below. On our trails we came across a few pieces of fire wood here and there, so we put them in the truck. This 4x4ing trip reminded me of the commercial on TV about the couple buying a Hummer, she wants the mopar accessories and he wants the free gas....to go mucking around.(see picture on the left) After we were done 4x4ing, the sun was still shining, so we decided to go for a walk along the River Valley Trails. That is more of what I enjoy. The boys had their slurpies I bought them and we all enjoyed the walk. After that and because we found some good fire wood, we went home and roasted hot dogs over the fire and toasted marshmallows. We jumped on the trampoline and threw the baseball around to Mike to get him practiced up for baseball tomorrow. It was a great day of Sunday fun.

Sunny Sunny Sunday

I am very happy with the weather this weekend. Today is another sunny day. My kids had their friends sleep over last night and it was a lot of fun for them. They set up the trampoline and bounced on it for hours. I enjoy bouncing on the trampoline when no one else is on it, otherwise they bounce me til I feel ill. We were all up early this morning because my daughter's friend was getting picked up at 8:30 am. Her mom was taking them to Quesnel because her brother has LaCrosse there. We all enjoyed pankcakes for break fast. We will be heading to the ball diamonds to get them in shape for Tuesday's first practice. Mike and his friend are coming up to the ball fields to help in hopes that they get to try out the batting cage. It will be good practice for them. It's hard to belive that April is almost over. My friend is getting married in less than 2 weeks. Hope everyone enjoys a Sunny Sunday. Kels asked me to put this picture on my blog of the real Peter Griffin. Too funny!

My Friend's engagement announcement

This is Robin and Darrel when they were at my wedding in 2005.
Robin was my maid of honor. We had a great time that weekend at the Hills.
I am looking forward to her wedding at Loon Lake. I will be a blast.

Late Breaking News in Williams Lake

What a crazy news day. This morning there was a chlorine leak near Scout Island (Williams Lake) and the hazz mat team was called in. Everyone who lives or works along the lake were evacuated. So, my hubby was sent away from work, because Winsor Plywood is located near the lake. All the displaced people were sent to the Gibralter room in the complex. The chlorine leak is now under control. Shortly after the news about the chlorine, we had a call in that Poplar Glade Elementary School was on fire. They believe the fire was started in the wiring. The school cannot be salvaged. The students were safely transported to the gym of the high school near by (Columneetza). Apparently there are some hot spots flaring up, so the areas near Poplar Glade are now being evacuated. Plus it is very windy right now and that is not helping matters either. I am sure you will see it on tonight's news (Global and CTV). Also check out www.wltribune.com for more info.

Kitchen update

Sean worked a bit on the kitchen yesterday and put up 80% of the walls and put in my new light fixture over the sink. We need to put up the moldings and paint tonight if there is time...no Hockey game tonight! Yay! Hopefully this weekend we can get the kitchen totally completed. Sean replaced all the electrical in the living room and kitchen, so I was very happy with that. It's coming along quite nicely. Soon I will post the before and after pictures on my web album for you all to see. I would love to get the laundry room done this weekend so that the spare room can be put back in order. Then, I can finally feel good about having company over for a visit. The visit might have to wait until after my friend's wedding and the May Long Weekend (Sean is working all that weekend). By then, we will be working on getting the holiday trailer in shape. We are going to paint and put in new flooring before we take it out this summer. We've owned the holiday trailer for almost 3 years now and it hasn't left the driveway. I'm looking forward to camping for a week this summer!

No title today, just random ramblings

Today it is sunny again and I am very pleased. Sean will be able to put the kitchen walls up today and since the weather is so nice, he'll be able to do his cutting outside. This is good news because I feel like I've been waiting forever to get the kitchen done. (It's only been 2 months) I'm afraid to call home and check on the progress, just in case it's not going well, so I'll just have to wait until I get home from work I guess. I am really hoping he gets the moldings up on the knotty pine wall in the living room today too. His next day off will be Sunday, but we are going to be busy cleaning up the ball diamonds on Sunday.

I had a nice lunch out today with my friend. We went to the new Mexican restaurant in town. They didn't have much selection on their menu, but the food was awesome. I had a bean and cheese burito. It was so delicious, I ate the whole thing. Now I am stuffed. We have cake, carrot cake for Lynn's 50th birthday in the boardroom, but I doubt I could eat another bite of anything including cake. Maybe if there is still some left late this afternoon, I'll grab a piece. So much for dieting! It's easier for me to stay on track with a diet in the summer. Then I can afford to eat all the wonderful fruits and vegetables available and excercise more..hiking, walking or biking to name a few. I cannot wait for summer to get here. I might even try riding my bike to work...it'll be tough riding home, up hill 4kms. Perhaps I will ride the River Valley Trail from near my work to the bottom of the big hill and then get Sean to pick me up when he is done work. This is when I really miss my friends that have moved away, because nobody likes to bike anymore except my family (and sometimes I am forcing them to get out and ride).

Enjoy the sunshine everyone and have a good day!

I'm at it again!

Here's how the story goes... The kids were away for the weekend and Sean had to work Saturday, so what the heck am I to do all day??? Sean suggested that I stay home and clean the house...what?? The house isn't even that messy and is that any way to talk to your wife?? I thought he might say...let's go for lunch...but no. Then he asks me if I would be in town at lunch time. So I say NO! Remember, I'm cleaning the house. I guess there was no taking his comment back, so he headed out for work. It's 8am on a Saturday and I simply cannot go back to sleep, so I perform my wifey duties, starting in the laundry room. So, I drag all the crud out of the laundry room and pile it in my daughter's room because she's not home and I start cleaning...floors, walls..and then I decide to take out the utility shelf units and paint the laundry room. So that is what I did all day Saturday, but now Sean needs to put up new moldings to match the rest of the house. Trust me if I knew how to run the miter saw I would have done it myself. I painted the laundry room with leftover paint from the living room, so it didn't cost us any more money. Then we picked up some nice white wire shelves on Sunday, because there was no way I was going to put back the ugly utility shelves. Now the problem is I need to get my daughter's room cleaned up before she comes home Sunday night, so I transfer the pig stye mess of comfortors and sheets etc. to the spare room. Believe me it was a mess! So, the laundry room is looking pretty spiffy, the shelves are up and the moldings are going up on Wed. (Sean usually has Tues. off, but they asked if he would work tomorrow). Then he is planning on finishing the kitchen on Wed. too. Keep you fingers crossed...I need sunny weather so Sean can do his cutting outside on our deck. I'll keep you posted.

Crazy day at work

Today was the deadline for the Hockey pool at work and we had over 300 entries brought in today. This meant all we did all day was get up and down from the front counter. I barely got my duties done today. The last hour I worked, I just sat at the counter sounding like a broken record. Ten dollars please....good luck. What a day to put a deadline...of course everyone was waitng to see what happened in the game last night before they put their picks in. Oh and don't even get me started on the gaming liscence...because the boss who takes care of that was away today in a seminar with about half of our staff. It was just a very crazy day at work. After work a bunch of us went to Oliver's. Our office had won the free office party at Oliver's, so we received 2 jugs of beer and 2 large appy plates with onion rings, cross trax fries, teriaki and hot sauce wings and scallop & bacon wraps. All this for FREE. What a great way to relax after a hard day at work. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Columneetza...a trip down memory lane

Last night the grade 8 info night and tour was awesome. I was a bit sad that this school does not offer a band program and there no longer is a bus the students can take to the other high school to take band. Columneetza is the catchment school for our area and if I wanted to send my daughter to Williams Lake Secondary, then I would have to fill out a cross-border transfer form. Since all of her school buddies with be at The Big C, my daughter decided that is where she would like to go. They have a great art and drama program at Columneetza. The school has changed a lot since I attended there, but a lot is still the same. The gym is now part of the school and there is a lovely drama room right beside the gym. A few years ago the shop wing was burnt down and it is finally up and running. The shop, welding and woodworking rooms are awesome. They have proper venting and are being called the best school workshop in BC. I took French class in the basement and the french classroom is still down there. My kids found my sister's picture on the wall by the gym and they found my picture on the wall near the library. They both said wow we looked so much younger back then. Yeah thanks...I graduated 17 years ago and my sister graduated 19 years ago. It was fun to take a look around and see how things have changed over the years. It was a trip down memory lane.

Sunny Days

I spent my lunch hour enjoying the nice warm sunshine. It was nice to be outside getting fresh air. It's supposed to be sunny for a couple of days, then pour rain, so I will get as much sun as I can.
Sean worked on the kitchen a bit yesterday. It's not finished yet, but it is coming along quite nice. If all goes well, it will be finished next Tuesday. I am hoping for nice weather, otherwise it won't happen because Sean does all the cutting outside on the deck. He is replacing the walls in our kitchen. The old ones were greasy and yucky.
I am spending lots of time helping my friend with wedding stuff and that's about it! I hope everyone is having a sunny day.

A very proud Mom

As I wish upon a star...
© Kels Borgy

As I wish upon a star I wonder where or who you are. Are you wishing just like me or are you out on the sea? I am dreaming just of you, maybe someday, my wish will come true. I want you for mine to keep, but if I can't my mind might sleep. You bring me to full potential and you are my #1 essential...

This poem was writen by my daughter. This poem has been presented The Editor's Choice Award. Her poem was chosen along with 32 other poems for The Sound Of Poetry, a 3 CD set of chosen poems.

That makes me a very proud Mom. Her certificate wouldn't load on my blog, so I've stored it on my web albums for skittles 90.

Coffee Break Spanish and the weekend

So, my weekend was great, but very busy. The girls were up late Friday night and making a bit too much noise. I felt bad, but they had to quiet down because Sean had to work Saturday. We had them staying in the living room so there was 68 feet between them and our bedroom. They all had a good time. It was great to hear all the laughing and giggling. Mike had his friend stay over on Friday and they were as good as gold. Everyone was up early on Saturday, so I made pancakes for breakfast. Mike and I spent 4 hours on Saturday with WL Minor Fastball registration and try outs. We ran the t-ball try out area. The kids were so cute and a lot of fun. I was tired at the end because of bending over and picking up all those balls. It was great excercise. Mike was able to practice his batting skills in the batting cage area. He had a great time and his friend also signed up, so we will try to get them on the same team.
We went to church on Sunday...we hadn't been to church in 4 weeks. (Not that I feel guilty or anything) It was good, but the second coffee urn didn't brew, so that was interesting. Sean changed the oil in my car and his Jimmy. Then it was Hockey Hockey Hockey. Yeah Canucks..another win in o/t!! While Sean was watching the game I worked on making a picture CD for my friend's wedding next month. Then, I set up Coffee Break Spanish on my computer and was hoping to start this morning on coffee break...but at my office it is way too noisey. Perhaps I will bring in some ear phones tomorrow. It's going to be fun and I am learning with my friend and my sister too!
Today it is cloudy, rainy and cold. April showers bring May flowers??? I am really hoping for good weather in May for the wedding.

TGIF

I am soooo bagged this week and I am glad Friday is here. Or am I because it is Friday the 13th??? My daughter is having a 13 party tonight, so we will have a bunch of girls over tonight for a sleep over. It's mexican night, so we will be enjoying tacos for dinner with tortillia chips and salsa and mexi fries. I power cleaned around the house yesterday. Did I say for 3.5 hrs? I was the magic porch ferry that cleaned up. The kids had to clean up the pile of junk that was sitting outside our front door and pile it up behind our holiday trailer. The neighbour fellow told us he would take a truck load of the junk to the dump for us. I thought that was very nice, but he probably hates looking at it. They are super nice neighbours. My son cleaned the bathroom and my daughter cleaned the kitchen. It felt so good to have it cleaned up. Just in time for some 13 year olds to mess it up. Hee hee hee!! They better clean up their own mess. So, when the house was clean, I baked my daughter a cake for her party at 10pm last night. Crazy eh? This morning I pulled my sorry butt out of bed to ice her cake. Then it was time to go to work. I look outside to see SNOW...WET SNOW. It was just a little bit of snow, but none the less, it was unwanted!!! I am sure it will be all gone by this afternoon. My friend told me she had 2 feet of snow at her house. She lives about half an hour from WL. Tomorrow my son and I are helping with baseball registration and try outs from 11am-3pm. It should be a lot of fun. My kids are both busy with Floor Hockey. They verse each other next Wed. On Sunday we hope to get the kitchen finished. We still have the wall to do around the sink and put up the new light fixture. We have not been home very much in the last few weeks, so hopefully we get it all done this weekend. I might paint the porch now that it is clean in there. I Hope everyone has a great weekend!!! TGIF!!! Oh did I say the boss is away today...not that that makes a difference because we still all work hard regardless.

Sunshine and Daffodils

I am so happy the sun is out today. It was very cold again last night and I had to scrape my car windows again this morning. I decided last night that I would wear my teal and brown skirt and top with my new flip flops, so that's what I wore to work today. When I got to the office I put my space heater under my desk and cranked it to high to keep my feet warm. It worked quite well. Now it is super hot out and I was able to enjoy some sun at lunch. One of the girls in advertising brought me a bouquet of daffodils. I missed getting daffodils last week from the Cancer Society because I was away from the office for my eye appointment. Isn't she so sweet. I just love the people I work with.

My Trip to the Dentist

6 months ago, I found out I had a very small cavity in my back right molar. My dentist figured it was small enough that I could get it filled with out freezing. First of all, the last time I had a cavity I was 16 years old, second of all, the freezing made me pass out. They had to turn me upside down to get me breathing properly again. It was scarey...the room was spinning. I swore I would never go back. Then when I was 22 I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled and lived through it. I've gone to the dentist regularily since then. So, this morning the dentist is telling me that they will have some freezing on hand just in case..but I was strong and made it through with out the freezing. The worst part of it was the drilling. I guess I have lost my bragging rights for being cavity free for 18 years. I've had the same dentist for over 30 years and he's still the best. I hope he never retires!

Shopping and Shopping and more Shopping

I had a great time in Maple Ridge this weekend. We drove my Dad to the ferry on Good Friday, just in time for the 1pm boat. There was a huge line up for walk on passengers because they didn't open the ticket booth until 10 min. to 1pm. They shut off ticket sales 5 min before sailing. Good thing they decided to keep selling tickets. We arrived at Horseshoe Bay at 12:45pm. We drove up front, told my Dad to get out and we would park and come back to make sure he got his ticket for the next sailing. We found a parking spot right away up near the water front. Then we waited in line with my dad to make sure he was getting on that ferry and he got his ticket at 1:57pm. So, we go back to the car and find we are pinned in by another car that parked on an angle behind us where there was no parking spot. Sean went to use the washroom and when he came back, the car had moved so we could get out. Yay!! We were on our way to Maple Ridge to see my sister and her family for the weekend.
Saturday was such a nice day, but I spent most of it inside Malls shopping for a dress. I found my dress right away, well actually I saw it in Kamloops and really liked it, so we went to Sears in Coquitlam. We were looking for a dress for Robin's oldest daughter, which was hard because she wasn't there with us. We didn't find Robin a dress, but there are lots of possibilities. I am sure she'll find one just in time. Reminds me of my wedding dress nightmare...which turned out just perfect in the end. After we were done shopping, we went for Lunch at Mr. Mike's. I just love eating there. I worked at Mr. Mike's in WL for 4 years (it was my first job). The burgers tasted just like I remembered them. MMMM MMMM good. Then we stoped at Tim Hortins for a coffee before we headed back to Maple Ridge. I didn't win a thing on my cup, however Robin didn't tell me if she won anything. She'd better not be holding out on me!!! Hee Hee Hee. When we got back to Maple Ridge, my mom and sister were ready to go to Costco, so we hopped in her truck and headed out again. It was so hot I bought a cute denim skort and a light sweater and a t-shirt. On the way back, we stopped at the Superstore and I bought a cute pair of sandals to go with my new dress. My sister bought me a pair of chocolate brown flip flops. It was great. On Sunday we went shopping for wedding decorations with Robin. That went very well. I am getting so excited!!! Less than 5 weeks til her wedding. Then it was back in the car after lunch on Sunday and headed home. It was another whirl wind trip Sandi style, but it was an awesome weekend!!!

Quick Trip

We are back home. My eye appointment went well. Things are clearing up in the back of my eye and the swelling has gone down. I can see much better now with my left eye. About 75% better than 5 weeks ago. I'll have to go back if there is a severe change in my vision.
We went to a Greek restaurant last night for dinner and it was very good food..I ate too much...but it was so good. We had the Greek Treat, which came with chicken breasts, mushrooms, potato wedges, rice and pita bread. Yummy!!! Then My friend and I went to Starbucks for coffee and a 3hour chat. It was so much fun. This morning she came with us to Hello Toast for breakfast. I love eating out for breakfast. We had some time to kill before my appontment, so we went to Wal Mart and bought a game for my daughter that she really wanted. Turns out if was on sale...lucky girl. then we looked at coffee tables and found nothing we like better than what we found at The Brick. We will look some more this weekend when we are in Vancouver.

It's Cold again

Last night I had a hard time sleeping and the furnace kept turning on all night. I woke up and checked the temperature outside this morning and it was -17 celcius. What??? That is way too cold for April. What happened to our Spring. It sprung for a day only and then April fools came. It was snowing in Maple Ridge yesterday, so it must be all over the province that we are getting unusual weather.
We are going to Kamloops this afternoon, so hopefully it is warmer there. I see the eye specialist tomorrow and hopefully I get some results. It's frustrating waiting and waiting. It's hard to believe I've had this eye problem for 5 weeks already. I would really like to see properly again!!!

Pictures of the Birthday girl

My Daughter is officially a teenager!!!

13 years ago today I became a Mom for the first time. Kelsey was born on Saturday of Easter weekend that year. My parents went to Salmon Arm to visit my grandpa. My Mom said to me, "Don't you have that baby while I'm gone." I said not to worry because my due date wasn't for another 3 and a half weeks. Funny how that worked out. My parents left on the Friday and I went into labour at 6am on that Saturday and headed off to the hospital. When I arrived at the hospital, I was 8 cm dilated and my baby girl was born at 9:40am, weighing 8 lbs, 14.5 oz. A big girl for being 25 days ahead of schedule. My how the time flies by...from diapers...to crayons...to reading...to writing...to teenager(i-pods/internet who needs a phone when you have your own computer?). I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful daughter, who has turned into a real treasure to me.
