Summer 2011 So Far

This summer started out like most...rain rain rain. But by the end of The Stampede the rain usually disappears. This year has been quite different. In fact, I haven’t turned on the sprinklers this summer at all. The summer started out with sad news. My grandma (my Dad’s mom) passed away June 20, 2011 at the age of 93. Then 20 days later, my grandpa (my Mom’s dad) passed away, just 1 month short of turning 97.

He passed away in his sleep July 10, 2011. They both had great lives and I will miss them. We had a Celebration of Life for my Grandma July 2nd in Nanaimo. My Grandpa’s Celebration of Life will be July 31st in Vernon. Mike went camping with one of his buddies and we will pick him up on our way to Vernon. We had fun at Billy Barker Days this past weekend. The highlight for me was eating out at Mr. Mike’s. I had a Super Mushroom Burger. Ahhh....that brings back memories of when I was a kid and when I worked at Mr. Mike’s when I was a teenager. Still the same great taste and I love the Special Mike Sauce. I was disappointed they didn’t serve steak fries any more. I just had regular french fries. The girls got to enjoy the rides at the Midway. We walked around The Gold Nugget Mall and Crystal spent her money at the candy store. Kelsey met up with some friends at the park and spent the night at her dad’s. Her friends brought her home on Sunday. We had hoped to go camping but the weather is just not co-operating. We will bring our tent trailer to Vernon at the end of the month. We are camping at Vernon Creek, which is a short walk to Kal Lake and just happens to be across the street from my Uncle’s house. This time we are going to try and make a holiday out of our trip. It will also be the weekend before Crystal’s 7th birthday, so we are hoping to do something fun for that. The campsite has a mini golf course. If time permits, we would like to go to Atlantis Waterslides. I haven’t been to those water slides since the 80’s. So that should be fun, as long as the weather is warm. Our scheduled holidays are at the end of August. I am hoping to take the kids to Victoria, as they have never been there. I am looking forward to going to Buchart Gardens and the BC Museum. Hopefully my parents can go to Victoria with us. My dad makes a great tour guide and the kids always have fun hanging out with their grandma.
