Wheelin'

After I took Mike and his friend Dayton swiming, they wanted to go rip their wheels on the skateboard park behind the pool. They had a great time. I think all boys there age should own those wheelies.

C-ouch!

Why is it when you get new furniture that it quickly becomes a magnet for accidents??? We had our love seat for less than a week when my son got sick and puked all over it. This was before our couch came in. Gross, and guess who gets to clean it up! Then last night we come home from ball to find out that my daughter was doing her homework in the living room and apparently her pen wouldn't write so she shook it hard. It was a gel pen and all the ink went flying all over the living room. We found ink on the walls, on the coffee table, on the end tables and spots all over the couch and love seat. We spent almost an hour trying to get the ink off of the couches. It looked like we got it all out, but I'll have to look again today when I get home from work and it is light out. The good thing is we have a 5 year warranty and if the ink doesn't come out, we can return the couches and they will replace them with the exact same ones at no charge. I guess that was a very smart decision we made to get the extra coverage. My daughter felt really bad, but we needed her not to help because she was getting in the way. Needless to say, there will be no more homework in the living room. We've only had the couches for 2 months!!

New Air mattresses

I picked up new air mattresses for my kids the other weekend because they were on sale at Canadian Tire. They are so cool...double high and best of all they have a built in pump that blows the mattress up in less than 2 min. My son really likes his new mattress.

You'll see in the picture my daughter doing what she does best...spending time on her computer. I was disappointed that you couldn't manually blow them up, so Kels won't be able to take hers to pathfinder camps this summer. That's probably better that way...you know in case something happened to it while she was away. They were reasonably priced, but still a big investment for me.

Over the weekend, my kids' sister came for a visit. We went to the video store on Saturday night late and there was nothing left to rent, so my son asked to rent Pan's Labyrinth. The case looked like it was a harmless movie. We plug it in and find out that is is rated R. Yikes...so we watched it anyway. There was a few spots that were a bit graffic, but it was a fairly good show. It was in Spanish with English sub titles. Usually I hate movies with sub titles, but this one was quite well done. Plus I know a bit of Spanish, so I could understand a bunch of the words that were spoken.

I sold a bunch of junk that was laying around our house at the garage sale I had at my work on Saturday. The rest of the stuff that didn't sell we took to The Salvation Army Thrift Store. Sunday Mike had his wacky fun baseball tournament. The 1st game they had to run backwards to 1st base, carry and egg on a spoon to 2nd. Hop from 2nd to 3rd and run home. They used a rubber ball instead of a baseball. It was fun for the kids. The next event was pop fly catching. The boy and girl who caught the most pop flies got a prize. Then they timed the kids running the bases and the fastest boy and girl won a prize. Mike didn't win anything, but was given a goody bag for participating. They also threw water baloons for fun. After the tournament, we went down town to see the car show. A friend of ours won 1st place for his 1957 Chevy truck.

Kels went to see Pirates #3 at the theater with her Pathfinders group. They were working on a badge...movie mania badge. She enjoyed the movie. It was a busy and fun weekend.

It was a good birthday

The cake was wonderful. I bought it at our local ice cream parlour. The flavour was triple tornado and cookies and cream with an oreo bottom and fudge filling. It was yummy! Sean also really like his hot rod I bought him. It's an air compressor.

Happy Birthday to my Hubby

Sean is 31 years old to today. This picture was taken on our holidays last summer in Courtney. He is so wonderful to me and my kids. I am blessed to have him in my life. Happy birthday Sean.

What a great day.

The sun is shining and there is not a cloud in sight. Work today seems to be buzzing along nicely. My friend Agnes, whom I call Angus, where's the beef (she is petite and thin) took me out to lunch at The Bean Counter. I had a Chef Salad and it was awesome. Then to make lunch even better, I had a big Macchiato. Yummy, but not as good as Starbucks. But, I'll take what I can get since the nearest Starbucks is a 3 hour drive away.

My son has a game tonight. They are playing The Navys'. My son lost his hat last week, so if we don't find it, I'll have to buy a new one for him. They are doing team pictures next week and I hope we get them back right away. Last year they were handed out on the last day of ball.

The weather is supposed to be nice for the next 3 days, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. We are having a garage sale at my office on Saturday and my son has a fun baseball tournament on Sunday. After the ball tournment on Sunday, we are going to check out the car show. Sean is not in the car show this year because he needs to do some work on the brakes and a few other things on his 1962 Pontiac Laurentian. Besides, it is a gas guzzler and gas prices keep going up and up and up.

Enjoy the rest of your day and I hope it is sunny for everyone!

Rainy weekend

We had a rainy weekend in Williams Lake over the long weekend. I had hoped to be able to go for a bike ride, but with the lousy weather and everyone being gone, I just puttered around the house. We are working on getting our holiday trailer in shape to take out camping next month and for our summer vacation. We won't be travelling too far since gas prices are so high...$123.9 a liter. We actually have owned the holiday trailer for 3 years, but it hasn't left the yard. It's a 1967 Kit trailer and it has no leaks! We bought a new fridge for it and it needs the outside lighting replaced along with the back window, which has a huge crack in it. It needs new tires too. I bought some easy install lino and we are going to paint it inside and out. So, it's a huge project, but it will all be worth it in the end. I think we will just take it out as far as Mcleese Lake or maybe Lac La Hache this summer. We figured it actually costs us well over $500 to go to the island for holidays, so we are putting that money into fixing up the trailer. Now, we just need some nice sunny weather for camping. I bought each of my kids a twin double high air bed. It's awesome because it inflates with the built in pump in less than 2 min. and they are as high as my couch. My kids had to try them out, so they camped out in the living room last night. I bought them for travelling so that my son is not sleeping on the floor...he has asthma and any pet or dust is not good for him. He thinks he'll be tenting this summer, but I don't think so because the holiday trailer has 3 beds and sleeps 6. But if they really must tent, I'll probably let them. Kels gets enough tenting in at her Pathfinders camps. I cannot wait to go camping and boating and biking this summer. Hopefully we will have company camping too.

You are my happy feeling

I never felt emotion,
I thought it not-so-true.
That all changed one day, the day I met you.
Your eyes shine like no other,
I wish I could meet your mother.
Our story is sad but true.
If you and I were together,
we'd never be through.
My deepest fears are realized.
You gone I can't stand.
If you could please lend me your hand.
Life is a game played by two.
One must win and one must lose.

The Green Beans Won a Game

Go beans!! go beans!! Last night was the 2nd game of the season for Mike's team. They were last bats, the score going into the Royals open inning was 14 beans 5 Royals. The Royals scored 13 runs in the open inning, so the Beans were forced to play the last inning as well. When they hit 19, they called the game over. I was glad because it was freezing cold sitting out in the grand stands watching. Last year Mike's team only won 1 game the entire season, so I was happy to see them doing better this year. Once again, my son was put on the last team, with the newest members and coach and the least amount of players. But that's OK, someone has to be there. As long as they have fun and are being good sports, that's all that really matters. His main tournament is on Father's Day, so I hope he will be able to make it for that because they hand out metals to the players that day.

The sun is shinning and it looks like it is going to be a nice weekend after all. Too bad my hubby is stuck working, but he was able to take 4 days off last week to come to the wedding with me, so it is worth it. We still have Monday off together...to work around the yard. (and perhaps work on my tan a bit too)

The Green Team

Life has settled down quite a bit and I am very thankful. My son got his uniform last night. We missed uniform night last week because it was raining on Tuesday and we were away for the wedding on Thursday. It's always fun getting a new uniform. This year he is number 23 and his jersey is forest green. For the past 2 years his jersey was royal blue, so a change is good. His pants are a bit small, but the next size up was way too big. So he'll just have to wear tall socks. Last night was his first official game. They did well, but didn't win. Mike struck out the first time at bat (super fast pitcher) and he only got 1 more time at bat...in which he smacked it really hard down the 3rd base line, but then it went fowl. After that he hit it hard to 1st base and was put out. He was very disappointed, so we treated him to a slurpie after the game to make him feel better. There were way too many flying ants last night. I hope they disappear soon...they are very annoying!!!

Making my living room special

My Hubby bought me this candle centerpiece for the living room. It matches our decor perfectly.

Here is a picture of my sister and I from the wedding. Normally she has really curly hair. She straightened it for the wedding. I think her hair looks great!

What a perfect setting for a wedding

The wedding was so awesome. The weather was very warm and the lake was beautiful. We had a great time. Now that I am back home, I feel bagged. We were on the go 4 days in a row. I am still tired and it was hard to get out of bed this morning. Here are some pictures. Hopefully sometime this week I will load more photos on my web album. Hope everyone (mom's) had a great mother's day.

Getting packed

I cannot believe that we are leaving tomorrow. We are all packed and boy do we ever have a lot of stuff for just being away 3 nights. Well, the kids need their video games and laptops for in the car. Otherwise it makes for a very long trip...and are we there yet asked frequently. We bought an adapter for the cigarette lighter so they both can be on their computers while we travel. Sometimes they can pick up an internet connection. I am looking forward to having some time off of work and enjoying visiting my friends and family. We are bringing the Jimmy because all the stuff won't fit in my car. I am bringing some decorations with me. I am not sure when I will get another chance to put a post on my blog, so you might have to wait until Monday to see pictures from the wedding.
I've posted some before and after pictures on my web album (link is on the left side of my blog). You can click the link and then click on the album and select slide show.
Happy Mother's Day to all my mother friends!
We will be having Mothers Day brunch at ABC with everyone from the wedding.

A fire too close to home

Shortly after I got home from work, I looked out the living room window and saw a bit of smoke in the back yard...then I saw a huge black puff of smoke. Shortly after that, I heard the sirens going. Kels and I went down the hill to take a look. Here are the pictures she took.

The holiday trailer in our neighbour's yard got melted. The tree next door to the barn that was on fire caught on fire. Also the roof on the log home 2 homes away caught on fire. It had an old wooden shingle roof. The fire dept. was able to contain the fire, however it was a bit scarey because the wind was blowing up the hill towards our homes and the brush was very dry and caught fire. It came about 50 feet from our back yard. I guess the guy was burning brush in his back yard. I hope he had a permit because the Forestry workers were also helping out with the fire. Here's a picture from the top of our driveway

I made sure I had my garden hose out, hey you never know.

The count down is on

OK, I am getting excited about my friend's wedding and the countdown is on...3 sleeps until we leave and 5 sleeps til the actual wedding. I just looked at the 5 day forecast and it looks like it will be sunny and not too hot, 17 celcuis, so I am pleased with that news. So, as long as that doesn't change, it'll be a perfect day to get married. The wedding part is outside near the lake. I'll be waiting for my friend to cross the bridge and meet me and the best man and the groom on the other side. It's going to be a load of fun. I made a DVD of some pictures of Robin and I growing up. The rooms look fantastic and I am sure the food will be awesome too. If you have time here is the web site http://www.loonlake.ubc.ca/groups/gallery.html

The 1st bike ride of the season

Today started out great. First, we slept in for the first time in years. Then my hubby made me a wondeful breakfast.
Then we decided to take the bikes down to the river valley for our first ride of the season. The weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold. I had a good time, but found it hard going in some places. OK, I can admit it, I am out of shape. It's different when you are riding with just an adult (my hubby) because I am used to my kids wanting to stop and take plenty of breaks. It was great excercise and we are going to try and do that at least once a week. We were out for an hour and a half.

Then Sean took me off trail and we went down to he river. It was hard riding in the rocks and the soft ground. I had fun.

Gifted students inspired

Newspaper Surprise

My daughter attended a writing work shop last Friday at Thompson Rivers University. She was 1 of 100 students from all over our region, from grades 6-12 that were invited to go to the work shop (she's in grade 7). They met with real authors and learned a lot about the writing process. The headline on today's paper, (of which there was a picture of my daughter, Kelsey) said "Gifted students inspired". It was a surprise to see her picture when I was flipping threw the paper today. I'll have to post a copy of the newspaper clipping on my blog. It was a huge opportunity for Kels to go and she has a true gift for writing. She has 2 of her poems published by poetry.com and is working on writing a book. I am sure my friend, who is a gifted writer, has inspired her too.

It's been a year already

Today is also National Star Wars Day...May the fourth be with you.

What type of personality are you???

My lucky sister is on her way to Disneyland today with her band class. I hope she says hi to Tigger and Pooh for me! That got me to thinking about how we can relate our personalities to the Winnie The Pooh characters.
Are you huggy and loving like Winnie ThePooh?

Or are you more like Tigger....always on the go, bouncing and not able to sit still?

Some people might be like Eeyore...take life in stride, what ever happens happens.

Or are you organized like Rabbit who must have all his carrots in a perfect row? Rabbit gets mad at those who mess up his garden and home. He's almost to the point of being over stressed.

The funny thing is I am somewhat like Rabbit, but since I have a hubby and 2 kids who are like Tigger, it's not always possible to have my whole life in perfect order. My favorite character is Tigger, but I am some what shy and not that out going. Pooh is more like me. I'm there if you need to talk or if you need a hug. My mom's favorite character is Eeyore. Poor Eeyore, you gotta just feel sorry for him. Don't be afraid to leave you comment on my blog. I'd love to hear who you would compare yourself too.

Crazy Busy Again

As usual I was crazy busy again today. I snuck out of work 10 min. early today so that I could go grocery shopping because today was customer appreciation day at Safeway and I like to get 10% off my grocery bill. It's like getting $40 worth of free food. Anyways, that took much longer than I expected, so I never made it home until 5:15pm. then I had to unload the groceries...my family helped and I was very thankful. The problem was I needed to leave the house by 5:30pm to be up at the ball fields. Talk about running around like a chicken with its head cut off. So that only left me 15 min. to eat and get changed into my casual ball clothes. I wore my WL Minor Fastball shirt because I was helping people find their way to their teams tonight and it was easy for them to recognize me. Mike's coach this year is a fellow that I used to work with back when I was a teenager. We did some pretty crazy stuff...I wonder if he remembers me. I wasn't going to ask him because we were both psycho back then. It was great to be back up there and visit with the parents that I had made friends with over the last ball season. Mike did really well, I think his new glove we bought him is working out much better. He hit the ball on the first try and was put out at first base. His second time at bat went much better...home run. He sure can smack that ball pretty hard. It's amazing to watch the kids play because they still remember the skills they learned last year. Other than it being cold out, it was a great night.

I bought my daughter a new dress today. It is for my friend's wedding and also for her grade 7 grad dinner. I was pleased when she actually liked what I picked out and it was also on sale..double bonus. It's a light green color with a bit of blue paisley and white. We had to buy her a size too big so that it would fit in the top area. She is just like me in that area. I cannot decide if that's a good thing or a curse. Anyways, after ball was over we headed to my mom's to put some tie straps on the new dress and now it fits perfect. So as you can see, today was crazy busy for me!
