Life happens

I haven't had much time to do any posting this week. All I can say is...Life Happens. Things are starting to settle down around here. Today the sun is shining and I'm enjoying it because this weekend they are calling for some more snow. I'm sure everyone is sick of winter. I am hoping for spring like weather by my birthday! It's hard to believe that tomorrow is March. February just flew by and before we know it Spring Break will be here. My kids are going to the Island for Spring Break and Easter to see their Grandma and Great Grandma. I'm sure they'll have a great time and get spoiled.
My daughter really wanted to paint last night, but we didn't have any paints at the house, so she used food coloring instead. Her pictures turned out really good. I was amazed. We had Sean's friend over for dinner, so she painted a portrait of him. He liked it and took it home with him. I'll have to scan and post her artwork to show you.
I'm not doing much this weekend, I'll probably just relax and enjoy some Chardonay. My car needs the timing belt changed and it's a big/expensive job. It's getting done on Monday. I've done my taxes, so that will help pay for the timing belt. Hmmm I was hoping to spend my tax refund on a new laptop. Oh well ,what can a girl do eh?

Thoughts from my sister, Linda

I love you Mom, I will miss you deeply. You were my friend, my treasure and I appreciate you so very, very much."Fire on a Wire!" Love, Linda

I got the kids turtles, as Mary Ann collected them, so I told them when they see the turtle, give it a hug and remember Grandma's love.

She is gone

Some of my closer friends might know that my "Other Mom", Maryann passed away on Friday after a lengthy battle with cancer. I met Maryann when I was only 2yrs old. That's when Robin (her daughter) and I became friends. So, Maryann was like a mother to me. That's why she is my "Other Mom". Growing up as kids she would take us to basketball practice after school. We took many a trip in her yellow car, that we called The Egg Beater. When the family moved away, the summer before Robin and I were going to grade 8, I was devastated. But that was OK because I would save up my money and visit often. She would pick me up in New Westminster, so I wouldn't have to change busses along the way. She even picked us up at the train station in Vancouver. When I was a teenager, my sister decided to date my best friend's older brother and they were married in 1993. I must admit at first I was jealous my sister would now be related to my best friend and her family. Robin and I had thought up many ways for us to be related when we were younger, but marrying one her brothers just was out of the question. They picked on us girls when we were younger. Her older brother even shot our soup one day with his be- be gun. So, it was very sad to hear that Maryann passed away. The even sadder part is the fact that I live so far away ): My sister sent me a poem she found that helps her family deal with the loss of their Mom and Grandma. If anyone else has stories, pictures or poems to share on my blog, I'd be glad to post them.

Shining The Lucky Pennies

Over the weekend my son worked on his science project and he finished it up last night. He was using different household cleaners to see what would shine a penny the best. The idea started after we returned home from Disneyland and he wanted to clean up some of the pennies he had pressed into souvenirs. The results were very interesting and coca cola seemed to work best with out scrubbing and then comet worked with a little elbow grease. I thought for sure the lemon juice would have worked best.

A Moose came for a visit

I have never seen a moose in my back yard before. It was a funny picture because he was munching on the tree and was over halfway covered in the snow. That gives you an idea of how much snow there was this winter. Today it was sunny and the snow is starting to melt, but I'm sure the snow in the back yard won't melt til summer(:

I cannot believe the snow

It snowed again last night and it is still snowing. I shoveled off the side walk and 5 min. later there was so much snow you couldn't tell that I had even shoveled. It is still snowing and it is wet snow, so what a joy it will be to drive home. Will spring ever show up???

Now here's something to make you laugh. We had fun with this at work(:

What is a 710?
===============

A few days ago I was having some work done at my local garage.
A lady came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten.

We all looked at each other and another customer asked,
"What is a seven-hundred-ten?"

She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the
engine, I have lost it and need a new one."

She replied that she did not know exactly what it was, but this
piece had always been there. The mechanic gave her a piece of
paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like.

She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then
took her over to another car which had its hood up and asked
"is there a 710 on this car?" She pointed and said,
"Of course, it's right there."

If you're not sure what a 710 is look below:

California Adventure

After spending the first 2 days at Disneyland, we decided on the 3rd day to go check out California Adventure. It was awesome too, but I chickened out and did not go on some of the rides. However, my kids and their grandma went on them. Crazy eh? I enjoyed the Grizzly River Run. A geiser went off as our raft was floating by and we all got soaked. It was a good thing the sun was hot that day(:

Astro Blasters at Disneyland

Ok, so I'm not the best shot, but at least I wasn't dead last. LOL!

3. The online access to my credit card...I can keep track and watch for fraud.

It's the winter that never ends...

We are back home from our wonderful Disneyland trip. The drive home through the Fraser Canyon was horrible. The Coquihalla Hwy was closed. They had just re-opened Hwy 97 on Sunday,so we were able to get home. There were boulders and mini snow avalanches all over the road. We pretty much had to stop at every gas station and clean off the headlights from all the slush. Then we get home to find it had snowed over a foot. Our neighbour had plowed our driveway for us, so we were very thankful. We had a bunch of snow last night and the plow truck plowed our driveway shut. So, I took Sean's Jimmy to work today. He doesn't work today, so he'll need to shovel the driveway. I thought for sure we would be done with the snow by now. I hear that darn groundhog saw his shadow last week and we are up for another 6 weeks of winter. Yuck!I hear it was -25 while we were away.

On a better note, California was hot, hot, hot. We had a magical time in Disneyland. It was sooooo awesome. The weather was warm the entire week and it rained for about 3 min. on the Monday. Friday it was so hot out I had to come back to the hotel for a while to chill. We were in t-shirts and short/capris the entire time. So, you can imagine the shock to my system to come back to winter wonderland. I'll try to post more photos when I have more time(:

Our Flight has been Delayed

We are sitting at Vancouver International Airport waiting for our flight. We arrived a bit earlier than we needed to and now we find out that the flight has been delayed for 1 hour and 9 min. We will be in Anaheim around 5pm. Luckily there is a Tim Hortins beside our departure gate. Plus my daughter's computer works via wireless internet. That is helping pass the time. My son is playing DS and my hubby is rocking out with his ipod. I think I will read my book next. We are really excited that we will be in Disney soon.
I hope to post something later this week, but we will see how that goes. It is sure nice and warm here.
The drive through the canyon was slushy. I have never seen that much snow down here. At Boston Bar there was more snow than back at home. Crazy eh?

All packed and ready to go

Well, we are all packed and ready to leave tomorrow for our holidays. My son had to miss school today because he was feeling very sick. I think he had the bad stomach flew that has been going around. At least it only lasts 24 hours; I hope. It is snowing again plus it is very windy and cold. I'm glad we will be enjoying the sun in California very soon. We stay the Saturday night in Vancouver and fly out on Sunday. We are all looking forward to a fun time(:
