KFC Aroma

KFC is 4 blocks away from where I work. I was on my way to the bank yesterday and I could smell the aroma of the chicken. My hubby loves eating KFC. I cannot remember the last time I ate their chicken...I think it might have been Mother's Day last year. I find their chicken too fatty. I had friends that worked there in my teen years and the grease back there was unbeliveable. I doubt they have changed much in the past 15-20 years. The smell was getting to me..it was making me hungry, but I didn't give in. I am really trying to eat healthier (except my chocolate addiction). But, for Sean's birthday in May, I will treat him to some KFC. My kids like it too and I will probably eat a piece. I remember my parents treating us to Kentucky Fried Chicken when we were younger. My sister and I loved it. I would save the bucket from the chicken (still the same cardboard bucket today) and use it for a trash can in my bedroom. How gross is that...I obviously didn't have any idea back then about food safe!! Crazy eh??

Reno's, road trips and relaxing

Remember I thought that the kitchen reno's would be done this past Tues?? Well, they aren't, but that's OK. My kitchen countertop is in place now. It looks great, but Sean said it was a big job...about a weeks worth. We still need to put up the tile on the wall above the kitchen sink and paint the walls on the sink side of the kitchen. It's starting to come along nice. We will be busy with inventory at Sean's work this weekend and then we are going to Kamloops for my eye appointment next week and then off to Maple Ridge to visit my sister and her family for Easter. We are driving down with my parents. My dad is going to Nanaimo to pick up my grandma's car. She gave it to him, it's a 2002 Nissan Sentra with all the bells and whistles. My parents never had a cd player in their old car or even air conditioning. It will be a good car for them. Their 1990 Tempo is getting old, but it has been very well looked after. I am looking forward to visiting my friends and family. I am looking forward to some nice weather too. My nephews are already playing baseball in Maple Ridge. Our baseball season starts in May in Williams Lake.

When the kitchen is done, Im going to post some before and after pictures on my blog. Then you can let me know what you think. I am loving my living room...and my cafe mocha candle my daughter bought me for my birthday. It's so nice to have a cozy place to relax!

A jones for a Jones

Here is a picture that was emailed to me from Kendal. This is a picture of Robyn & Kendal's son Jeremy. It was cute so I decided to share it!!! When Robyn graduated, I put her Grad picture on a t-shirt with a jones soda label.

The living room

Well, last night we finished painting the living room. It looks great. I love the colors; Swiss Cream on the walls and Coffee Conisure for the trim. My curtains are a dark chocolate brown which matches up nicely with the trim. We are looking for new end tables and a new coffee table. We have one in mnd, it's a round table and the color of the wood is espresso. We are waiting to see what we can find in Kamloops or Vancouver, as we will be in those places in a couple of weeks, before we decide. I still need to finish sewing curtains for the bay windows. Well actually my mom is doing the sewing and I'm just helping or supervising the operation. I am so thankful to have a mom who is good at sewing and doesn't mind helping me out. I am not sure when we will get the curtains done, but I am hoping soon. The bright sun is out and it is shining in the bay windows and I would be upset if the colors faded on our new furniture. My hubby still has his feature wall to stain. He put up knotty pine on the wall that backs the kitchen. We decided we didn't really need the pass through opening from the kitchen to the livingroom anymore. Now I am missing it.... I didn't realise how much we looked through it to watch TV from the kitchen or even to talk to each other from the 2 different rooms. Oh well, it looks much better not having it there. When you look in the living room, you no longer see the junk on the kitchen counters. It will just take a bit of getting used to that's all. So, we just have the counter top and walls to replace around the sink, stove and fridge areas and we are done in the kitchen. I am really hoping it will happen today. There is so much junk piled up by the front door from the reno's that I will be glad to get it cleaned up this weekend...a big trip to the dump should do wonders.

The sun is shining and it looks like it is going to be a nice day. I hope everyone is geting out and enjoying the nice weather and the fresh air!!!

It's a good day

I went out to lunch with my friend Bonnie. We had Chinese food and it was awesome. I did a bit of shopping. Found a couple of good deals. Bought a bottle of wine and rented a movie. The movie I rented has Sandra Bullock in it. It is called The Lakehouse. My hubby is making dinner tonight. We are having swiss veal, greek salad (my favorite) and baked potatoes. We have orange, pineapple, raspberry sherbet for dessert. We didn't get the reno's done this week, so that's tomorrow's project. It is looking like it might be completed this coming Tuesday if all goes well. Then we are going to give reno's a break for a while,so we can build up the savings account again. I still want to paint the porch, laundry room and spare room. We might just have enough paint left over to do that. But, if I paint, then I'll want to replace the moldings to match the rest of the house...oh yeah we are supposed to be giving the reno's a break. So I guess we will see. We are going to Kamloops in a couple of weeks to see the eye specialist again and then we are going to Maple Ridge to visit my sister and her family and my friend Robin and her girls on Easter weekend. It should be fun. I had a blast last night video chatting with my sister. I think we were on for about an hour. We would email pictures when we were chatting. It was soooo cool. She has an imac like mine, but I think hers has a bigger screen. It is so awesome that she has internet (hooked up yesterday). We'll have to video chat lots. It's just finding the time to do it that will make it difficult. Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Feeling Better

I feel so much better today. I guess I killed my cold. I hope it doesn't come back and bite me in the butt.
Today is supposed to be the first day of spring and we are having a snow storm. When will it ever end? I think this winter has dragged on long enough.
Hubby didn't get my kitchen counter top installed yesterday. Grrr... But that's OK. We will just have to work on it this weekend. He took the kids shopping for my birthday gifts and spent some time playing catch with my son. Baseball season starts in 6 weeks and my son wanted to break in the new glove he got for his birthday. I am glad they were able to get some fresh air yesterday.

How to Kill a cold

That's it I've had enough of feeling aweful. I went to the drugstore on my lunch break and bought a few things to hopefuly kill this cold. I hope it works. I am going home and resting and taking some Neo Citran.

Snow, movie and reno's

Today is the last day of winter according to my calendar. I guess that is why we had SNOW this morning. I had a good weekend, with the exception of a slight fever on Sunday and now I have an aweful cold. We saw the Movie The Bridge to Terabithia. It was a good movie, but the girl dies and that is so sad. I looked over to my daughter and she was a bit teary eyed. She was OK. She said it was like the book, the girl died in the book too. She is just used to happy endings. It was a good ending...the boy took his little sister across the bridge he built to Terabithia. It was a little crazy taking 6 of us to the movies. I took my son and his friend Daton shopping on Saturday. Mike bought a shocking cell phone and his friend bought a shocking lighter. Then he left the lighter beside the birthday cake and sure enough, my hubby got zapped when he went to light the candles. 2 of Mike's friends were not able to come over after the movie because they are witnesses. Mike asked them what they wittnessed...funny boy. Then he says "oh, you go to a church that's not a church". I told Mike it was called the Kingdom Hall and to drop it. Dayton spent the night and then they went to Dayton's house on Sunday. They are such good friends. I am hoping they are on the same ball team this year. That shouldn't be a problem since I am on the board of directors. We are still working on reno's. The new countertop should be installed today. I cannot wait to see what it looks like. We started painting the living room. Swiss Cream (taupe) and Coffee Conisure (chocolate brown) It's going to look nice with our new furniture. I'll just be glad to get the curtains back up. I don't like that people can look in.

The weekend is near

It's been a long week, but a good one. I've spent some time this week preping the livingroom walls so I can paint them. Hopefully I'll get the paint up this weekend. Our new couch has arrived and sad to say, but my son was sick and puked on the new couch. Good thing we have a 5 yr warranty for just about anything, which includes puke stains and cigarette burns. Luckily, I was able to clean it up. Yuck..double yuck. The kitchen is coming along nicely. We have startd to paint the walls and the countertop arrived today, so hopefully by next weekend (my birthday) we will be done reno's for a while. Happy St' Patick's Day everyone. I'll be at the movies tomorrow with my son and his friends as part of his birthday party. We are going to see the Bridge to Terabithia.

My sister just bought a Mac

I am so excited my sister bought a Mac. It's an i-mac like mine, but bigger 20". Her boys have made their own files. They don't have internet yet, but it is coming soon. I cannot wait to video chat with my sister and her family. It's going to be so much fun. I wonder how many others we will convert to Mac....

Green Blog

Hello everyone. What do you think of all the green??? I decided to change the color for March because of St.Patrick's day and green reminds me of spring. We had some really nice weather the past week and then wham-o we are back into winter. We had a skiff of snow and all the mud puddles were frozen this morning. I even had to scrape my car windows, a first for March as far as I can remember. I was watching the news last night and I was shocked to see all the flooding in the lower mainland, especially Maple Ridge, where my sister lives. My sister told me her back yard was like a swimming pool, but luckily it didn't flood into their home. I just keep telling myself that spring will be here soon. I miss going bike riding and hiking and just going for walks. I've been cooped up inside for too long. This Saturday we are having a birthday party for my son who will be 11 next Monday. Our house is still in mid-reno, so I am really hoping for some warm weather so the boys can go outside. Spring break starts this weekend and our kids have 2 weeks off. The second week they get off because they start school 8 min. early and knock off 7 min. from their lunch break. That gives them 2 weeks extra off each school year; 1 week at spring break and 1 week in mid Oct/Nov for fall break. I like it because I get more time with them and they are old enough not to have to be in daycare or that would cost a small fortune. The school district is looking at changing the school week to 4 days instead of 5 days and those days would have to be longer than they are now. They are also talking about changing schools from grades 8-12 to grades 7-9 and grades 10-12 by Fall 2009. It will be interesting to see the change, but who knows if we will be in WL in 2 years. I guess we will just see what happens. Have a great day you all!!!

Happy weekend

I agree with my friend when she says TGIF. I am looking forward to the weekend. My kids will be away and my Hubby has to work all weekend, so I am going to spend some quality time reading my friend's book. I don't know how much I will be able to read at one time due to my blurry vision, but I hope to be able to jump right into it. I just love reading and it's even better when you get a sneak peak at a book that is not published yet. I cannot wait to see my friend's book for sale in the book stores. It will be so cool. I think we are going to get a book shelf for in my bedroom for all my books. If I am feeling up to it I might wash the walls in the livingroom and get them ready for being painted. I need to start my spring cleaning. My uncle and cousin are coming for the weekend and are staying with my parents. So I am sure it will be a happy weekend. I am also caught up at work after taking some time off, so that is great because I don't like to be behind and think about that all weekend. Too bad my friend isn't coming for a visit this weekend. Maybe she'll be able to visit soon and by then I will have my new couch.

Update on my appointment

I went to see Dr. Hopp today and he sent me to the Kamloops Hospital for a flourentine test. This test involved getting yellow dye shot through my vein and then they took pictures of my eyes at 30 second intervals. Big bright flashing lights. It was making me feel ill, but I made it through. I had my eyes dialated 2 times today. They didn't really say what the problem is and basically I will have to live with blurred vision in my left eye until I go back to see Dr. Hopp in 4 weeks. How frustrating.

Starbucks

I don't know what it is about Starbucks, but I absolutely love their coffee. I was dissapointed when they stopped getting in the Vallencia Syrup, but that's OK because I have found other flavours that are just as tastey. I would most likely go broke if we had a Starbucks in WL. So, I make sure I treat myself to a Grande when I am in the city. So, tomorrow I'll be enjoying Starbucks with my friend in Kamloops.

Eye sight troubles

I am having troubles again with my sight in my left eye. It all started about 4 years ago when a chunk of old paint got into my eye when I was scaping the paint off the shed. In the spring of 2004 I was having my eyes checked and they noticed that I had scratches on the back of my left eye. I figured it was from that darn paint chip from the previous year and thought nothing of it. That was until my vision started to go down hill. By the spring of 2005 I was not able to drive at night because of the glare of the headlights and if it rained it was hard to see the road. I was refered to a specialist and found out that I had an eye disease called PIC, an eye disease common overseas. Since I hadn't left the country in years they wondered how I ended up with PIC. This disease causes swelling in the back of my eye causing blurred vision. I had to take a stereroid that helped reduce the swelling in my eye so I was able to see and do my job. I never at that point ever thought about how my life would be different if I couldn't see. It scares me a lot. In the fall of 2005 I ended up having to go to Vancouver to see the specialist. They injected a neon yellow dye into my eye and took over 100 pictures. Those flashes were very bright. The stereroid seemed to work and my eye sight was better. I was thankful not to have to take the medication because It had horrible side effects for me. Plus, I made it to age 30 before I even had to take a tylenol, so I wasn't used to taking pills. For the entire year 2006, I went for a check up every 3 months at the WL clinic. Last October, things were looking great and the Eye Doctor thought I should start coming every 6 months because my eyes were doing so well. I was back to my regular perscription from 2004. I thought this is great, I might qualify for laser eye surgery. When checking into it, I would only qualify if my perscription didn't change or have an eye disease for a minium of 2 years. So for now, I guess laser eye surgery is out of the question. I'm OK with that because it is still quite costly. So, we decided to get new livingroom furniture instead. I will be going to see Dr. Hopp in Kamloops next week to find out what to do next. I am glad to have the option of going to Kamloops instead of Vancouver. I have friends there and I am starting to know my way around Kamloops. I will keep you updated of the results. Thanks to everyone who is praying for me.
